How to distinguish between good and bad modern office furniture is a topic that many people are interested in, but how can we truly master these small details?
Method 1: Smell
If the cabinet is closed, you can open the door and smell inside to see if there's a strong, pungent odor. Most modern office furniture has a paint smell, which is normal. This smell will usually disappear after the furniture has been aired out for 15-20 days. If some furniture still has a pungent smell after being displayed in a store for a while, then you should probably avoid it. This applies whether you choose solid wood or particleboard. Health is the most important thing nowadays.
Method 2: Check the material
Many merchants advertise solid wood furniture, but in reality, many are made using materials such as MDF, molded, and foamed materials.
How do we distinguish between real and fake?
1. Examine the wood grain. If the wood grain on modern office furniture is clear and there are obvious mortise and tenon joint marks, it is basically real solid wood. (Because real wood has obvious wood grain and is not made from a single piece of wood, but rather from several pieces of wood joined together).
2. Check the wood species. This is a direct factor affecting quality. Solid wood furniture typically uses red beech, white oak, ash, elm, catalpa, rubberwood, and oak, among others. These woods also have different grades; generally, wood imported from Europe and North America is of higher quality and more expensive. Therefore, with the rising price of timber, anything too cheap is definitely suspicious.
Method 3: Look at the details
If the above criteria are met, then you should check the quality and workmanship. For example, are the carvings three-dimensional and full? Is the paint finish on the inner shelves of the cabinet, the carved and openwork areas of the furniture, and the bottom of the tabletop smooth and delicate? Are the lines of the furniture smooth and natural? Some manufacturers have a fine surface but a rough interior; good modern office furniture should be consistent inside and out.
Method 4: Examine the structure
First, check the design of the furniture's four legs to see if they are sturdy and stable. Consumers can easily tell by placing the furniture on a flat surface and shaking it. Some furniture only has three legs touching the ground, which definitely indicates poor stability.
Secondly, observe whether modern office furniture has sharp corners. Good modern office furniture will have its corners polished smooth and rounded, taking full account of the safety of adults and children.
Method 5: Check the quality of the glass
When choosing furniture with glass or mirrors, such as dressing tables, full-length mirrors, wine cabinets, and coffee tables, be sure to look at the mirror to see if it is distorted or discolored, and whether it is clear and free of impurities.
Method Six: Examine the paint
As the saying goes, "A carpenter's skill is 30% carpentry and 70% painting." Good modern office furniture should have a smooth, even, and glossy finish, without drips, wrinkles, or bumps. Edges and corners should not be sharp or angular, as these are prone to chipping and paint peeling.
